About the author: Lourdes Schaffroth's interest in helping children began with her positions of Local Chapter President, National President to Executive Director for the New Jersey based Children's Liver Foundation, Inc. in the 1980's. In these capacities she helped bring national and local awareness of children's liver disease along with treatment's that included successful liver transplants. This culminated with an invitation to visit the White House and a meeting with then President Ronald Reagen for the work she did on behalf of one particular young woman in getting her liver transplant. Although this young woman later passed away, Lourdes' efforts helped to get the state funding needed to give others the chance for their successful treatments.
Lourdes continues her involvement with children's issues today as a co-owner of "Easy & Affordable Drug Testing, based in Olyphant, Pennsylvania. Lourdes along with her partner, Mary Shimo, advocate early and consistent drug testing in the home and schools to reach our children before their lives are ruined with drug addiction or worse, loss of their lives with an overdose. Their motto is " the only guarranteed cure is prevention." Along with affordable drug tests, they offer educational materials and support that includes information and guidance to rehabilitative services. Lourdes Schaffroth resides in northeastern Pennsylvania along with her husband Eric. Her hobbies include quilting and painting the lovely rustic scenery found in the rolling hills of Pennsylvamia. She enjoys spending her free time with her grown children, Christopher and Jenifer Aviles and their respective spouses and partners. Her recent blessing is the birth of her granddaughter Jovi Marie who gives joy and happiness with her sweet smiles and baby gurgles.
